Searching for Links

If you are interested in forming a link with a school in Rwanda, Nigeria, Bangladesh, Carribean or if you are a Special needs School and would like to link with a Special needs School in a developing country, Global School Partnerships are holding conferences to help schools new to linking set up a partnership and move forward on the linking journey. Dates and venues are across England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland. Please click here for further information.

UKOWLA is not a "dating agency". UKOWLA feels that while it can as an organisation assist you in finding the route to a partner we cannot and should not broker a relationship on your behalf. One of the strengths of links can be the fact that they did the background work together to establish the relationship from scratch.

Ways of finding links include:

  1. Look at what is already going on in your community. Which people or what organisations already have links to the outside world? Diaspora groups from other countries, returned international development workers such as VSO volunteers, ex diplomats etc. Many churches and Mosques have links to other parts of the world. Schools likewise may have existing links.
  2. International Development groups in your area may be able to help such as Oxfam, World Development Movement, Amnesty International etc.
  3. If you are a school looking for a link partner there are websites that are dedicated to helping find a partner e.g. the DfES www.globalgateway.org.uk managed by the British Council and www.bbc.co.uk/worldclass
  4. You may want to draw up a short-list of potential countries in which to find a partner. Contact the High Commissions or Embassies of those countries. They may be able to help.
